F.A.S.T.

Red Cross worker providing servicesSunburns, bee stings, heat exhaustion, choking, chest pains, cuts and bruises are just a few of the issues that people could experience during a community event.  First aid station team members provide basic first aid and CPR to individuals during community events.  

The Red Cross receives requests to provide First Aid stations at many community events throughout the year.  F.A.S.T. members provide timely and efficient coverage for those events where there is a risk of accidental injury. It is not intended to replace or delay advanced medical care.

F.A.S.T. member responsibilities include:

bulletsupporting the Red Cross mission
bulletensuring that an adequately stocked First Aid kit and all other supplies necessary to operate the station are available at the station before each sporting or community event
bulletensuring that all proper maintenance checks for all equipment are performed according to manufacturer’s guidelines
bulletfollow the First Aid Station guidelines, including Federal confidentiality regulations
bulletrequesting local EMS system transportation when needed
bulletmaintaining accurate, neat and complete records, reports, and logs for his/her station

To be a F.A.S.T member, you must:

bulletbe at least 17 years of age (if under 17 years of age, must have a signed parent permission form; if under 15 years of age, must have a signed parent permission form and parent must be present)
bullethold current Red Cross certification in First Aid, and Adult, Child and Infant CPR
bulletbe able to function effectively and meet all responsibilities expected of a First Aid Station Member
bullethave excellent written and verbal communication skills
bulletbe able to work effectively and cooperatively with others in a high stressed environment
bulletbe physically able to perform all duties of the job, which may include extensive standing and/or walking
